What a week for Sarah!

On Monday saw the return of the Super 7’s tournament, what was envisaged as a quick fire competition turned out to be the contrary as every competitor discovered their instincts to win.  It was a joy to watch from the side-lines to see some wonderful croquet battles.  What started as a relaxed, slow paced, first half of the tournament where new partnerships were finding their feet and fully engaged in tactics, turned into a more frenetic affair after tea when the croquet club was fighting against time and as well as the encroachment of the cricket outfield.  Mentioned in dispatches Diane (and John) who had their hearts set on the sweets only to see them awarded to May and Alison as winners of the plate competition.  However, overall, despite fierce competition from Eileen and Marion and Gillian and Martin, Sarah (partnered by Jackie) overcame the challenge laid down in the final by Lesley and Silivo.  Congratulations to Sarah and Jackie for not losing a game, but also to everyone for competing on the day, oh and yes thank you Margaret for the cake!

Wednesday last week (29/4/26), was Sarah’s first day as captain of the friendly matches and she led her team out for a local derby match against Harwell.  By 5 o’clock, first day jitters were a thing of the past as she steered her team to a resounding 7-2 victory.  Congratulations to all who contributed to this magnificent score line.  As despondent as Mary Elizabeth and her Harwell team were at the end their faces soon brightened when they saw the Tea that TVCC, in our usual indomitable style, had laid on.  Congratulations to everyone (Les, Alison, Martin, Lesley, Margaret, Diane and Sarah), I think a high marker has been set for the rest of the season.

Magnificent spread laid on by the TVCC team.
